The Pontiac GTO is often referred to by classic car enthusiasts as the GOAT. And there is do doubt it was built with the rebel in mind. In early 1963, General Motors' management banned divisions from involvement in auto racing. With GM's ban on factory-sponsored racing, Pontiac's managers began to emphasize street performance. The GTO disregarded GM's policy limit of a maximum engine displacement of 330 cu in (5.4 L) to include a larger 389 cu in (6.4 L) Pontiac V8. We love rebels and we love to stand out.
